The Honeymoon

Picked up my 2014 Sterling Silver Metalic BRZ Limited on Tuesday. I was ready for a new car (2 seat), but I wasn't sure that I could live with the compromises of trading away my beloved 2013 VW Golf R for the BRZ.

However, after driving the BRZ combined with the 0% interest rate, and the trade value of my Golf R, i decided to take the plunge.

Unlike most people, I love going 12 rounds with the dealer to get a good deal. Although, after seeing some other forum members paying as low as $23k, I have to admit to being a little perplexed.

My car:

$26,499.00 (MSRP was $29,009)
2014 Limited 6spd Manual
Package #2C
53 miles after being delivered from a sister dealership

My R's trade value was $28,700. In Maryland, you only have to pay tax on the difference between the cost of the new vehicle and the value of the trade. In my situation, that meant I did not have to pay any taxes. Only other charges were Title, registration and document fee (i know, doc fees are negotiable). Did i mention 0% financing!!!

What I love…

seats, handling, sporty look/shape, size, interior materials/fabric, available aftermarket upgrades, exterior lighting, short throw shifting, silver color, oil change in 10 minutes, rear wheel drive, somewhat classic sports car look (Bond, James Bond)

What I have to get used to…

- no AWD, less power, less torque (although, I think 200hp is adequate for this chassis)
- Audio/SAT/NAV, not horrible, but why no buttons???
- i can't fit my road bike inside
- gauges seem a bit dated red and orange LED readout and digital clock
- engaging first gear (i have been driving manual for more than 30 years, but this one is challenging)

This is our 4th Subaru (two 2010 Forester XT, current wife's 2013 Outback Limited/SAP).

I will post photos of the VW and BRZ when I have a chance.

Upgrades…

Probably limited to suspension (a bit lower), and a set of summer wheels.

I guess that's all for now.

I think I'm in for the long haul!
