I wonder how this works when there are design deficiencies in the cars original set-up? My car has an engine designed by Yamaha in the early 90's that was meant to make the Camry and Lexus ES300's, one of the quicker cars of their time. Much to Toyota's distress, this engine actually challenged their Supra and Lexus (performance 3.0L model engines in output. They tuned in a very modest timing curve, and a very rich AFR, to knock these engines down from 200hp, to 185hp. The timeing adjustments would make another 15hp in flywheel output alone, so this is conservasive. Then, to make the early emmissions system light the cat. as fast as possible, they built an almost rediculusly restrictive y-pipe design.

If i did all of the tuning mods, then fixed the y-pipe design with a 30 degree merging system (good for another 15hp on dynos), some of this would add-up. In particular, exhaust modifications that eliminate factory level power output restrictions, would help a boosted car. This would only apply though if the cars stock exhaust system had some very restrictive exhaust system details in it's design.

It would not add up directly, but if you have made exhaust mods already, they certainly would not be in vain, adding the Phantom System. I doubt the FRS/BRZ's system is much of a restriction as it sits to a 200hp (flywheel) engine, and relatively civil sound levels. Add some boost though, and it could hold back a significant amount of power. I'm sure it was very carefully designed to be polite about it's fun.
