I feel like this is a stupid question but I did it wrong (and I am perfect btw). Was the belt installed correctly? It's pretty easy to put the belt on and unknowingly install it one tooth over on any of the ribbed pulleys. The car will run fine and you won't be able to tell by looking at how the belt is running. The tensioner will dance slightly more than if it is installed correctly.
I have 20,000 on the original belt. I took it off when I dropped to the 70mm pulley. I did the math and a 1/2 decrease in circumference is needed to keep the tensioner in the same place so that is what I got.
I don't mean to state the obvious. I made the mistake and have been working on cars my entire life. It's pretty easy to miss especially when it's the last thing you have to do before you can go have some fun!!
