PUP 5W-20 is 10.5. Why are you worried about the cold cranking viscosity at -35C or -30C in California anyway??! And since Amsoil Signature Series is not API or ILSAC certified, a more appropriate comparison would be to Amsoil XL. The Amsoil XL 0W-20 has a NOACK of 12.5% and 5W-20 XL has a NOACK of 9.9%.

The SAE left the NOACK threshold at 15% going from SM to SN. New Ultra has a NOACK twice as high as the old Ultra. Yet, Pennzoil makes even loftier claims about the new formula. SOPUS must have made some interesting determinations when they tested the new Ultra.
I am pouring in PUPP 5W20 this 4th of July Holiday and will provide a 15k mile OCI UOA report in a couple of months. This will be a good starting point. As always, your results may vary. This oil is a little too thick in my opinion, but it will certainly be able to sustain the 86 engine like new. I believe the new Pennzoil Platinum Ultra with PurePlus 5W20 will be perfect for GDI engines.
