You are correct about how it plugs into the head unit - yellow RCA cable.

To power the camera, I first tapped into my amp power wire (under mat of trunk) - but like you saw...the valenti reverse/3rd brake light must have been too much for the rear of the car or something because it just stopped working. Switched the power source to the 12v connector in the glovebox - works again.

To trigger reverse, there should be a third wire on your reverse cam (mine was purple I think) and that's the trigger wire. You'll need to tap that into a wire under the driver side steering wheel...There's pictures of it on this forum in other reverse cam DIYs but let me know if you can't find it and I'll take a pic for you
