How do you know it had ethanol free gas in it when you purchased it?
The Ethanol issue has be suspected since day 1, and some people seem to have success in running different brands of gas but I believe it was dis-proven to be the root issue in all cases (meaning it does not eliminate the crickets in all cases), looking for the detailed thread where the pump was torn down now. And if I am providing this one little bit of "bad" information it is more than made for by the many threads i have posted about tuning tech etc.
Edit:
Found the Subaru tsb that explains it is to do with the clearances on the pump internals, looks like this latest revision says that fuel formulation may contribute so if running E0 works for you that's great, but i believe the root cause is still the pump design or rather the way tolerances stack up on some pumps in comparison to others. That does not mean it works in all cases, nor that it will always work in yours.
