TIA!

VIN can be found on the lower corner of the driver's side of the windshield (seen from outside). You can also find a sticker in the doorjamb.

Relevant digit you want is the 10th digit.

Sample VIN: JF1ZN6L81DG015770

10th digit is D. D = MY13

MY14 cars have E in place of D in the sequence. Last 6 digits are sequence number. Therefore in the VIN above, the car is a MY13 86 and is the 15,770th car built.

And to answer your question, yes. The MY will play into depreciation but will only affect resale value if you flip (sell) your car soon. Car depreciates the minute you drive off the dealership, and will depreciate again when the calendar changes.

I would only buy a MY13 if the dealer gives me a discount, but that's not how things are done over here. They usually offer some kind of incentive(s) back in the US when the '14s show up but all the cars I've seen so far are leftover '13s.

The local guys can prolly give you a more informed answer to whether or not you can expect to get a discount on leftover '13s come January. If you can't wait, find a '13 you want, and are offered a discount, I'd go for it. If you can wait, however, I'd order a '14 if you're concerned bout resale value and such.

For what it's worth, resale value isn't a factor for me. I know I'd keep the car but refuse to buy a '13 on principle when the dealers won't negotiate. And a '14 is so far off for me. I need a car today and will be looking into something else and perhaps pick up an 86 next year.
