Most people who will actually buy this car around the world remember and revere the Supra, the MR-2, Celica, Corolla Levin, Starlet GT, Chasers V, Soarer etc... they were all Toyotas.. none were scions.

Misfit? Are you one of those that think Toyota should only produce dull mobiles? Take a long walk off a short pier.

I don't mind them naming something new, but it will not be a scion. Scions move less than 300k units a year TOTAL, it is not a brand designed to be mass market. Furthermore, $20k is about the maximum you'd pay for a base scion, the FT-86 will not undercut the $20k mark, I can guarantee you that (and I'd rather they not cut the corners to make it possible either)

p.s. Scion dealerships ARE Toyota dealerships.
I guess I just think the opposite of you... yes I think toyota should only produce dull -yet high selling- mobiles.

Buick doesn't have one sports car, does that mean they NEED one, no. And I feel the same way for Toyota, just let the younger brand take this car as their flagship and, as their flagship I think they could muddle with the price more acceptably. Also this would not be the first time the US market gets a Toyota under a different brand-name.

They are appealing this car to the masses and the masses will go to Scion for a youthful, well priced coupe before Toyota, just look at the lineup recently, its not who they are anymore.

Either way I think this would be the logic of the people at Toyota, even though I would rather say 'I' drive a Toyota than a Scion. In the end I will be in the Subaru though
