I had thought it was a big 4-cylinder based on the exhaust pipes.

Four exhaust down pipes for six cylinders does look a little weird but not as inefficient as you might think. Straight sixes are notoriously difficult to design tuned headers for because the firing order isn't ideal.

No issues with the tuned 6=>2 header (then Y'd into a single) on the 3.1 liter L6 in my 240Z. 255rwhp and 225 rw lb-ft

153624 means each port is not used twice consecutively anyway.
Siamesed ports aren't so bad given the firing order.

Seems awful to me. Same firing order makes it easy to have a tuned 6=>2 header with 6 individual primaries. The collector for 123 cylinders sees 1-3-2- and the collector for 456 sees -5-6-4, even pulses for each.

Still one injector into, each combustion chamber is as efficient a fuel delivery as you can manage which is what the BRZ has.

My 240Z had 3x2 carbs, straight shot from each individual barrel into each intake port. Good times, good times...
