As for weight in the rear - I've heard conflicting stories. With my old car and old pickup, there was like a 70/30 F/R weight distribution, so you needed 100 lb in the trunk to help. People with 50/50 BMWs and Miatas claim no need to put weight in the trunk, and that just causes the car to spin more (more weight in motion side to side).
This car is a performance driver's dream in snow. Unbelievably good. I love mine. I fit Pirelli Sottozeros which are high performance winter tires and the car handles perfectly on ice.
