"smoked brakes" are not a result of a defect, which is all the warranty covers. Failure due to any other cause would result in a denial, or a repair as a goodwill gesture.

Yes, the warranty covers defects in the stock configuration. It is easy to surmise that a turbo increases the load on the transmission, something beyond what the factory intended it to do.

The transmission fluid requirement is a GL-3/4 or better, GL-5 is fine.

My BRZ has had 31 warranty claims (including the free maintenance), nothing denied...it's not a Scion vs Subaru issue.
