Inner wheel clearance at the front
Im looking at some aftermarket wheels and have heard there isnt a whole lot of clearance between the inside of the factory wheel and the strut at the front. Does anyone know specifically how much room there is?
Specifically I am looking at a 9.5 +38 on the front and want to know if this will fit. I will be using aftermarket coilovers which usually have a much smaller spring diameter than factory arrangements. Any reference points would be helpful. thanks! |

It depends on what size tires you run, but 9.5 +38 with no stretch or pinch would be just about touching the spring perch of the stock dampers. With aftermarket coilovers you'd be fine. |
@old greg thanks for that link, very helpful! So according to the info in that thread (Sti wheel being 7.5 +53) the 9.5 +38 will have 10mm less clearance on the inside so will definitely foul on the stock spring perch. you would think this will be fine with the much smaller diameter of aftermarket coilover springs wouldnt you?
thanks again. |
When I mounted 17x9 +42 with 245/40 Star Specs, their was about 1/8-1/4 of an inch of space between the tire and the spring perch. That is with nothing done as far as an alignment.
So that .5 inches on a +38 offset is only going to move it 3mm towards the strut housing. I think it would be fine but i'm no scientist. |
yeah i think with the stock struts it probably wont clear but I do need coilovers to make the wheels sit properly anyway which will give me some additional clearance. I'm unsure as to whether the tire will rub on the plastic liner when I turn full lock though. @Ranatsu do your tires rub on the plastic at all at full lock?
