Additional considerations when boosting
I found this article which I thought gave a nice insight into some of the considerations when looking to boost the FA20...
So, considering I am keen on the Edelbrock SC, and considering the long debates everyone has about how it will affect your car i.t.o. reliability etc, I thought it was worth sharing. I am by no means the doyen of SC/TC, but there is definitely a ton of "opinion" on here that isn't always correct :) http://www.revvolution.com/blog/2014...he-fa20-4u-gse |
Thanks for sharing! That's a good write up on a post FI teardown. One thing to note, since that article has been out for a while, is that it HAS been determined that the rods are the weak point and (from what I keep reading) if you are are making more than 300-350 whp, you are on borrowed time with them.
Heres some pretty good evidence of that from Moto East and MAP performance. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98229 http://i.imgur.com/Mgp01XM.jpg |
Figure if you are even 325whp, that's nearly double the whp to factory. For anyone to expect more out of a factory engine is insane. Also noted there is alot of small things that need to have taken care of, like...
Clamping all the vacuum lines. Installing a check valve on evap line to prevent boosting your gas tank. Cooling, engines hate heat. Don't apple boost to crank case by using the wrong catch cans setup. List go's on. |

and what catch cans work? or whats needed to make a basic catch can work? petcock? |

19psi from a supercharger is a lot of low-end torque. No wonder the rods were bent. I'm honestly surprised they weren't more deformed than the picture shows.
