Blew a ballast?
Was swapping out my headlights for 6000k HIDs from stock. The drivers side light will come on and then turn off after about 20 seconds when the passenger one will stay on. Doubting it's a bulb because they usually aren't intermittent.
Any thoughts? |
Try swapping the bulb to the other side? Does the old bulb still work fine if you swapped it back?
|
it's most likely the bulb. did you buy a cheap bulb? it is really hard to fry the OEM ballast unless you do something extremely wrong lol

Yea, OEM ballasts are really quite good, especially Denso/toyota ones in the brz |
Check your connections are tightly on. Usually when your buying a lower end ebay hid they mix and match bulbs and ballast which will cause loose connections.
|
They were diode dynamics bulbs. One works and one comes on and then goes our after a while. Still goes through the typical HID warm up. Is a bright blue then goes to white and levels. Sits there and then shuts off

Totaled.

There's always one guy.... Seriously though this should be the default answer to any question here on the forum. It's possible the bulb is bad. Try switching it like others have said. |

like others have said, swap the bulbs and see if the issue follows. It's unlikely that you blew a ballast. could be a bad bulb, or bad seating of the connectors.
|
Make sure the bulb is seated correctly, that could be causing this issue

I had the same exact issue, including having DD replacement HID's. Ended up being the bulb, it would go in and out then one day it completely stopped working.
Best to swap bulb to other side, if you have same issue pull it because I left mine for a while and ended up melting a portion of the ballast contact by the time it completely died (still works though). DD's support is great, they were quick to help. |
I don't know why anyone would keep a bad bulb lol. that's just a big safety hazard when driving in the dark. not just for yourself, but for everyone around you since they will only see one headlight and might think you're a motorcycle. I guess it's better than driving with no headlights on though. I still don't understand how people don't notice that they don't have their headlights on lol
