Broken Oil pressure sensor?
1 Attachment(s)
Okay, So tonight I was driving and about 5 minutes into my drive I heard this banging noise, it was very loud and increased and decreased with RPMs. I've managed to get home with the car but not until after calling a tow truck.
Long story short, Car chugged and then died, refuses to start at all. I did some searching in the engine bay and found the wiring part in the Attached image to be broken. Does anyone know what that piece is called? I think its the Oil Pressure Sensor. If this is really broken, could this cause a no-start condition? Car still doesn't start, no clicks, no nothing. Lights on dash come on and the battery is good. |
Yah, that looks like it could be the oil pressure sensor, but the pounding / banging noise sounds like it's something else. Any warning lights come up on the dash (CEL / oil)? Did the loud sound seem like it was something from within the engine / internal (although, chances are it definitely was, seeing as your car refuses to start).
Maybe someone who's had a similar issue can chime in. I've had issues with oil pressure sensors on one of my older cars in the past, but they never cut the engine out, so I would doubt that is the issue here. |
Yeah, that's the oil pressure switch. If it was disconnected you would have no warning light for loss of oil pressure. Bang and knock sounds like a thrown rod or spun bearing. Likely due to oil starvation.
How much oil on the dipstick? |
Op dude you might want to include mods, it appears you running a sprintex SC kit on E85 judging by your other posts
that oil pressure sender looks ok,is wire still connected. knocking\banging sounds pretty terminal. |
Ok, as Steve said, "More info."

Yep looks like you have some form of electrical problem as well could be a simple as a dead battery C1201 ABS rear valve failed C1234 ABS module error U0100 General communications fault between ECM and PCM power train control module seem a bit unrelated unless battery has failed or SC belt has let go and damaged wiring or similar. As for the knocking/banging that does not sound good, it possible it may be due to control module issues but sound more of a mechanical problem. |
Hmmm... I would need eyes and hands on to get any further.
|
I'll be wrenching tonight
|
keep us updated. Good luck

Smells faintly like e85 when I pull the dipstick. No leaks under the car after sitting 12 hours. Oil level is normal, maybe a tad high.

Found some pieces of belt near the rear of the engine bay. However, as far as I can tell, the belt is till in tact and I can trace it all the way around the top half of the motor. this piece of belt may be from a previous shredded belt.

Did you reconnect that lead to the oil pressure switch before you took the photo, or did you take that snapshot as-is?
