Brake Pads Upgrade - Shop Recommendations in OC?
 

Hey everyone!

Been a while since I posted on this forum, welp here goes.

Recently I noticed that my front driver side brakes are making a grinding noise whenever I slightly depress the brake pedal. My front brakes are probably around 30-40%, so I figured it was time for an upgrade. I purchased the WinMax W2 front pads for my BRZ. Here are some questions -

1. Can anyone recommend a cheap but good quality place that will swap out the stock pads for me?

2. Is it necessary to re-surface the rotors & drain the brake fluid with a brake pad upgrade?

3. Can I leave the rear brakes stock since they are generally used less?

1, pretty much any shop would do it. If you have basic tools or space to work at you can do it yourself. Brakes are pretty easy. That's if you have the tools and space to work on.

2. Not really. If there are deep grooves or the pads are worn out highly uneven, or are too thin below spec then yes. As for the fluid, if it's been a few years or you reached the service interval mileage then it's time.

3. Yes. But it might be a good idea to check the ware on them. If you haven't changed them in a few years it might be time. Depends on what you see.

Thanks for all your input!! I'm about 40K miles in - it's about that time for a brake change.

This. I'm looking to mod my car and brake pads are a definite future upgrade. Bring your car over to DIY Day for the benefit of me and yourself - but mostly me.

1. I recommend you spend the money on tools; the first time you do this you'll already have broken even on a floor jack, jack stands, and a basic set of tools.

3. I recommend you use the same pad compound front/rear. The car is designed this way, and you should stick to that unlses you have a very, very specific need/reason to not do so.
