Progressive Springs - Correct Orientation

I'm getting ready to do a spring install next weekend & I keep finding this question asked but there seems to be no general consensus.

Which is the correct orientation of the progressive spring on the shock? I was just going to install with reference to the lettering so that the letters are right side up, I don't think it should matter because the spring is going to be compressed the same amount either way.

Thoughts? :P

i wouldnt necessarily base it on the orientation of the logo, but the way it is currently in that pic is the correct way. the "tighter wound" part of the springs is on the bottom for the rears, and the tighter wound part of the springs is on the top for the fronts.

You are correct, a spring is a spring, so it doesn't matter which side is being compressed.

On some springs, I'm thinking of Bilstein here, they are different diamters so the seating on the spring perch and top hat would be affected. From the picture it looks like the coil diameter is the same at both ends so it doesn't matter.

Interesting. It does look like the rear coils have a decreasing radius near the top. The pitch also decreases so there's only one way for them to fit in the perches.

I'm not an expert. Gun to my head, I'd put the tighter pitch against the moving perch because that's the end with the lower spring constant. Less mass moving with the smaller perturbations.

It's probably the wrong answer. :(

The only time orientation of a spring will matter is if the top and bottom spring perches are of a different diameter.
