Dealer Caused Possible Electrical Issues

Actual Title: Dealer Caused Possible Electrical Issues

Thought I would post here because I have a limited time. Last week I got my BRZ fixed from an an accident with an 18-Wheeler. Now the right light of my rear license plate doesn't turn on. Also, the trunk no longer opens when I press the button between the rear plate lights. How would I fix this, or should I bother asking the repair shop to fix this? I only have tomorrow to fix this at the exact same dealer, so...

Edit: The dealer took off the trunk door in order to do repairs.

Did you make sure that the trunk release lock (button in trunk) wasn't on? Scratch that, BRZ is keyless so your button might work like my key slot in trunk.

Did you swap the license bulbs to see if it's not just a faulty bulb?

i had this bulb issue on my FRS, What kind of bulb are you using and press the trunk button on the left hand side. Its usually a faulty bulb but my bulb would go out once every 3 days. Not sure why

the BRZ still has the key slot.

definitely double check to make sure that the license plate bulb is properly seated and that the trunk lock switch isn't activated.

The dealer took off the trunk door in order to do repairs.

Yes, I have fiddled around with the trunk release lock, and that does not seem to be part of the issue. I have also tried opening the trunk using the button with my spare key with no positive outcome. I think that either the button was disconnected, or the sensors are no longer detecting that my key is "in range". The trunk still opens with the physical key hole and pressing the key's trunk button.

As for the rear license plate light, it is the same one that came with the car, LED. I have to assume that the connection isn't made because it was never reconnected.

P.S: My dad thinks they fried a circuit because they welded on a new bumper. I don't know.

Cool, thanks for confirming.

Okay, most led are low quality crap. Try replacing it with OEM to see if it work. LED tend to blow out more due to higher voltage since most LED are made to be used with low voltage setup.

As for you trunk, Does it open when you press the release trunk inside of your car? Does your key unlock/lock your doors? You might have a broken sensor or it isnt program to your key. Youll have to bring it back to the dealers and have them fix it.

Are you sure they actually welded anything on? The rear crash beam would be a bolt on piece. Even if they were welding, it wouldn't have fried a circuit. That absolute worst would be a popped fuse, in which case neither bulb would be working and no trunk release button would work.

Do the doors unlock still when you get close? If so, the car is detecting the key just fine.

It really sounds like they didn't connect everything back up properly when they put the trunk back on.

Take it back, make them fix it.

yea I don't see the need to weld anything...where are you getting you info from?

carma143 11-18-2015 01:02 PM

So I had to go behind the shop where it says "no customers" in order to properly describe the problem to the workers. We found that the button was not working becauseo of a disconnected wire..Ha!

As for the right rear-plate light, we're still not sure. They're about to test it with a multimeter.

So I wasn't around when the car was finished. My dad took it and gladly drove it back to me in college. He relayed to me that they welded all or part of a new bumper. It was bent enough as it was, and, I would guess, it's really hard to perfectly bend back that metal. That's as far as I know about the welding.

It's all been fixed
The light was due to it not being plugged in.
