Chatter at low rpm when cold
For over a year I have been having this low rpm chatter coming from the front of the gearbox.
After I start the car in the morning and the rpm goes down to 700, I can hear a rattle/chatter in the gearbox. When I press the clutch the noise goes away but as soon as I take my foot off the clutch the noise is there. Initially I thought that the clutch or throw out bearing is on its way out, but I had the clutch changed by a professional and it seems that the noise is even more obvious now. |
Did you have the throw out bearing replaced along with the clutch ..... ??

I have same issue if it even is one. Only when it's cold outside but goes away after warm. I'm sure it's just that.

Throwout bearing. I can't remember which thread it was but this is common. What clutch did you put in (stock or aftermarket)? Also did you have the throwout bearing replaced when you got the work done?

Broaden your search. I get that there have been loads of throw out bearing issues reported but it seems that it has become the go to recommendation and people are missing the small stuff by looking only for the big.
My guess (without being able to hear, see or feel things) is a loose heat shield or such that only vibrates when it is cold and shrunk up a little. As things warm up it expands just enough to not vibrate. Like this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97195 |

Maybe they put it in backwards ... ?? Maybe they replaced it with another old one, that looked OK....?? Pay me no never mind ..... :bonk: humfrz |

Not really, as I can tell is from inside the gearbox rather than out. Plus, a heatshield would not be influenced by the clutch pedal.
