Considerations for a new car addition!

Hello all-

Long time lurker, but no stranger to forum etiquette and rules...

That being said I want to get opinions. I searched all of these, but want specific advice! Thanks y'all...

So I moved to Cleveland from LA, and need a new car for the winter. I've owned an Evo X, but hated it. Felt cheap and always had problems.

Are there any other awd contenders that are similar in the fun factor? I don't lik the power delivery in the 2.0t 4 series...considering a focus hatch with snow tires (I know it's fwd), but wondering if that's a dumb move.

Lastly, should I hold off and wait for a new engine design in the sti? How many more years could that possibly take...?? I disliked the normal wrx immensely but like the new engine idea with the twin scroll turbo. Just need more power and a nicer interior.

Thanks!

Are you sure you're on the right forum?

I want a new car, and was curious about your reviews on the 2016 sti. I drove one, seemed great- will keep t stock, but was curious for firsthand experience- is it faster than the stock Evo X (didn't wanna get a ticket on the test drive)? Does it just look like a wrx without the wing?

Compared to the Fr-Z, do you enjoy it more? I am keeping my fr-s, but not if people who've made similar trades say they don't miss it.

I want this car to be my last one- don't want my sig getting much longer!

Thanks, happy Halloween!

I suspect that your quest for the "perfect " car may be in vain.
If you hated the Evo I highly doubt the WRX or STi will meet your standard either.
Oh and it is the STi that has the wing so if the one you test drove didn't it was a WRX so which did you test drive?

I think he's trying to ask if you took the wing off the sti would it then just look like the wrx. If so the answer is yes. I made the switch to a new wrx and love it, that being said I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the frs. They are both great in their own ways, but as tcoat said if you don't like the EVO x there is very little chance you will like the sti.

Dont need turbo to enjoy car. I say go older WRX awd. Rav4 awd is nice too or Venza imo.

Not really sure what he trying to say or ask as it rambles all over the place.

lol the post is all over the place. did someone forget their adderall this morning?

I wouldn't look twice at an STi. Go check out a new Golf R or wait for the Focus RS to arrive. The golf in particular has a very nice cabin if that matters to you.

Agree with humdizzle. If you want an upscale interior in an AWD turbo hatch, the Golf R is a pretty easy choice.

How big is the budget? For upscale practical performance I'd be trying to swing a V60 Polestar BMW 3 series wagon or CTSV wagon, all come in sedans if that's preferable but are in the $40-$60k region. The $30-$40k realm is kind of sparse and already covered.

The new 2016 WRX STi in Limited is nice. Has blindspot monitoring, heated rear view mirrors, Nav isn't total garbage anymore etc.. It also drives really nice and the interior isn't as bad as the last gen anymore.

The main question you should be asking is a) it going to be new or used and and b) are you looking for boy racer or something a bit more subtle

If it has to be Turbo 4WD and 4-doors, affordable as in sub 35k? options are going to be lot less than you think:

- Focus RS (expect paying out the ass)
- Subaru WRX/STi (probably going to be your best bang for buck, but be very careful when buying a used one as 95% of them have been driven into the ground)
- Golf R/R32 (overpriced in general)
- Lancer/Evo (the cars discounted so parts are going to be had to come by but to make it worse... like the Subi's people drive them like rally cars)
- Saab 9-3 Aero XWD (discontinued, it's absurdly rare, and trust me when I say parts are going to be hell to find)
- Malibu SS if you wan't 'Murica

If you willing to push the 40k+ envelope your list starts to expand a lot

Start throwing in low end BMW's, Audit obviously and the 4-Matic Merc's be beware of zee-german maintenance lol
