Rod Swap
Does anyone have experience swapping rods on an FA20?
My spare motor has a bent rod, and I'm finally getting around to having time to be able to swap it out. I remember reading that it was designed in such a way that you didn't need to split the block to replace a connecting rod. Can anyone with experience confirm this? I'm assuming you go in through the oil pan, remove the front chain cover, and then the bottom portion of the block? Help and insight is appreicated  |
I don't think you'll be able to remove the wristpin without pulling the head too. But ya flip it over on your motor stand and remove the oil pan and timing cover.
I would crack the case open and check all the main bearings though. Who knows what the shape of them are and it's not worth all that trouble to skip not cracking the case to save time. You might find yourself removing the engine because of something else. Bearing kits are cheap. |
While you are in there take a look at the oil galleries and such.

You have to pull the heads the rods and Pistons come out the sides. This not like an EJ block with wristpin access holes.

Thanks for the info guys.
God there's a lot of sealant on these motors lol. |
