Drift-Office : Edelbrock E-Force Supercharged!
11 Attachment(s)
Hey all - just posting up pics where and when I can. Recently had one shipped over to us and this thing is AWESOME and COOL looking as we already know. I'll leave my comments in the tuning segment of the post and I'm sure most are only interested in pics right now so without further ado...

Attachment 123351
Attachment 123350 Hardware and Install Notes: Took roughly 8 hours. We spent more time trying out different hose routing ideas to see which one would end up cleaner. The included binder is through, though I'd have to say that they need a HD version with LARGER pictures for old tired eyes like mine! As a professional installer, when I say this kit installation is a trouble-free experience, I mean it! It's uncharacteristic for kits these days to have ZERO installation issues; all the kits out there have some quirks, but this one really is trouble-free, especially for an early production model (very FIRST batch!) The well packaged shipment came on a pallet - all the components were packed gingerly and as you collect and remove the contents from the various boxes from within, your gaze and hands moves towards the SC unit. Everyone's seen it. Clearly, it's the coolest looking SC kit produced to date with quality that's backed up by a branding that only Edelbrock could. The biggest surprise I hear from peeps during our local revel we had here was that they all thought the construction was that of plastic and that the sand-casting quality was so good that it had them all fooled. Even then, many folks were touching it as if to quell their own disbelief... Attachment 123354 You might have heard about it, maybe even seen it on the teaser schematics. There's an actual HEAT EXCHANGER built into the system! Unlike the others with just an air-intercooled offering, Edelbrock had elected to employ an air-water solution that while doesn't eliminate heat (not possible,) defrays and mitigates it as long as possible and gives you much better endurance in a high performance situation than others using conventional / typical intercooler designs. Also, what's really nice about the Edelbrock hardware is that a Bosch T-Map (Temperature and MAP) sensor is included and unlike the competition with a similar runner design, we now have provisions to see IATs (Intake Air Temps) with accuracy - instead of having to guess. Just goes to show the level of know-how that went into engineering this kit. Tuning Convention : Test Vehicle - 2013 6MT FRS Fuel : Chevron 92 Octane Pump Mods : Rev Works UEL Header, Perrin 2.5 Inch Catback Exhaust One of the first things you'll notice on the dyno chart (and feel) is the instant response of power and torque down low. No doubt, your stock high-mileage OEM clutch would hate it's life, as we found out. Hence the delay while waiting on a replacement. Though not 100% necessary, it would be a good idea to have an upgraded clutch installed BEFORE and not ex post facto. The supercharger unit sits on top of the clutch slave and starter - it's not excruciatingly difficult to get to with the right tools, but might pose a bit of a challenge later on down the road. :) Attachment 123352 ^^^ 286WHP / 213#WTQ - This Ain't No Slouch! Attachment 123353 ^^^ Back to Back Runs within a minute of each other! Another thing we noticed is how the IATs remained pretty might constant (37-39 degrees C) throughout most of the dyno tuning sessions over a period of several days. Several back to back pulls later, you can put your hand on the sand-casting and while warm, isn't remotely hot to the touch! Just about the only regret I have now is that we didn't get a chance to see what this would do in an E85 solution - I reckon that 330 WHP shouldn't be out of question for the base kit. Those planning on a competition specific kit could certainly see more with the right supporting mods. Driving Impressions : Having spent a couple of days driving the vehicle around, I have to say that it was more than a pleasant experience. Nothing felt harsh- nor was meant to be; no head-snapping turbo-styled-torque-kicking-in of the sorts and still, plenty of subtle power on tap. As the RPMs climb, you get a sense of urgency as you approach redline. Shift and you're greeted with a rush coupled with a tingling sensation that's sure to put a smile on your face! As I escorted the customer home after the event, I had him do a series of drive-bys (or fly-bys?) I'd have to say, if butter had a sound, it would be called Edelbrock! So smooth and as one female in the convoy would say - "sounds like it's purrring!" Yeah, it might seem like we're gushing but that's litterally what you'd expect. I'm invigorated by the product and it's been awhile since I've been excited to be honest! One can only imagine how even more formidable this platform would be if used with a mild final drive / R&P change (say 4.557?) The results both on the the street and track is certain to enlighten (and improve) both serious and weekend road course drivers alike. With the aforementioned super efficient heat exchanger, you're guaranteed more endurance than with the other kits. Those in dry / humid conditions take note - you'd WANT this kit. Folks in constant gridlock would benefit from this too! Is this a product I'd put on my own car? I'd say yes but I'm a TURBO guy through and through but if I did buy another GT86, I won't even think TWICE about putting one of these in it! If you're looking for a SC unit that exudes class, quality and performance with a name that commands respect, look no further! Cheers! Bob @ Drift-Office, LLC |

Sub.
I got to ride in a stock FRS with this supercharger and boy it was fun! Not enough power for my tastes but honestly a good amount for the car. |
