ARP rod bolts

Does anyone know if you can swap in rod bolts with just an oil pan removal?

Yes, you should be able to replace the connecting rod bolts if you remove both the upper and lower oil pan since the bolts are at an angle. I have a FA20 down the short block right now if you want me to post a picture of what you will encounter when removing the oil pans.

Also, take a look at the pictures in this link where they rebuild this motor and you will see how the rod bolts are at an angle and not parallel to the connecting rod shaft.

yes i've read up on a few people blowing motors but it doesnt hurt to try old ideas. ive made 408whp on my basiclly stock honda gsr for over 50k miles, revving 9200 rpm and daily driven with only rod bolts, head bolts and double valve springs so i have a bit of faith in trying them. worst that happens is id shoot a rod as i would have stock or i bring something new to the forum.:D

The necks of the rods twist under the wrist pin that's the failure with stock rod bolt people have gotten to 500WHP but the rods are weak at that point.
12.5:1 compression and knock/detonation bends rods.

But to answer your question yes you can access the rods/bolts through the bottom
