Motec -GT86 Interface

Hi all,

Some of you will have read my thread regarding the removal of the ABS and installing a bias pedal box. I have decided to go down this road, and would also like to remove all keyless entry crap fro my car. Has anyone done this? Will the M150 work without any CAN signals?

Carolina Dyno 08-25-2015 04:45 PM

Yes, I run my car like this however I do run a completely custom firmware that I have written. I can't confirm that you would be able to do it without a development license. Can you link your other thread I think I have a few things that could help you out on the braking side as well. I'm also selling my M150 PnP loom as I am building a custom harness currently and won't need it anymore if you're interested.

I'm running an M150 in our car as well, and you can certainly disable all the CAN information and it'll run the car just fine without any of the CAN information -- even the MoTeC provided package should be able to do it (you can disable all the CAN channels altogether if you want to).

You would need a development license to run any of Carolina's custom firmware (or at the very least, an M150 with a matching license for Carolina's firmware).

I find this very interesting?? My dealer has shown me a mail from Motec that says it would be a problem? have you completely rewired your car then??

Do you still have DI, Cam timing and power steering?

Are you on the FA20 motor still?

Wheel speeds going into the ABS unit which are then transmitted on CAN. Ditch the ABS and you have to hardwire the wheel speeds into 4 ecu inputs or use a Motec dash with I/O upgrade and output via CAN. ABS also does stability control. Removing it will fault light on the dash. Without wheel speeds you can't do launch and traction in the ecu.

Body control ecu is the unknown. Has anyone got a proper wiring diagram? The workshop manual I have is poor.

Developer licence like I have lets you do anything but you are into coding cost unless you do it yourself as well as the price for that licence is roughly the same as the ECU.

Best bet is come round here Nigel and unplug everything on my car and see what happens. I don't have the time to test all that right now but you are welcome to have a go.

It's an FA20 motor w/ di, cam timing, etc.

Yes I am. And you are right about the ABS on the can -- maybe I wasn't clear on the OP's question. I was assuming the motor still had DI, etc, in which case I don't see why the motor wouldn't run on the existing package (which I understood was the primary question)? You're right, you would have to rewire the ABS sensors for wheel speed data.

I have a question for you, do they share the FT86 package when you pick up the developer license? I asked them and got no clear response. They have that package done well for the most part, I would love to add flex fuel support to it though...

I can view and download the package and project from Moteconline as I'm a dealer and have a login. Just looked without logging in and the project isn't there only the package. Maybe your local dealer can access it?

That's good to know -- I wonder if they'll give me both the GPR and the FT86 projects, I have a few things going on that would be nice to have both as starting points.

The 86 specific parts are now a module so you can drag that into your own build project or GPR build project for example. If you spend the time and disassemble the module you can work all the CAN bits out then remove what isn't needed - providing you don't run into a hardware break dependancy of course

That is fantastic news -- exactly what I needed to hear. Appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

This is what I will have to do with mine now as I'm fitting a Holinger rd6 with paddle shift which means I'll need to take the GPRP package and splice in the relevant 86 bits. Like you said though it means you can add some really cool stuff too. I'm thinking of adding an active brake cooling bit plus DRS and maybe diff and trans cooling controlled by the ecu

Nigelr32 08-28-2015 04:52 PM

So, has anyone actually removed the ABS system from the car and rewired the sensors and ripped out all the keyless entry crap with a Motec? Does the engine still operate as new and all other functions work OK?

If so, how did you do it please? You can take the module off the ABS unit and leave it connected to the loom, but you get an ABS and Engine light on the dash.
