FR-S won't rev past 4k

Hey guys. I'm having some issues with my car.. I let the car warm up for 10 mins, started driving in the highway, and nothing. It won't allow me to go past 4000 rpm. No CEL. No aftermarket parts.. And worst of all, no warranty. I've disconnected the negative terminal. Hopefully resetting the ecu will help.. Any/ all suggestions would be helpful.

Manual or Automatic?

Freeman 08-18-2015 06:44 PM

Could be a bad cat? I think i remember reading a thread a while back where a guy had the same issue and it ended up being his front cat has disintegrated and was plugging up his exhaust.

Good luck!

as per above post could be exhaust blockage caused by cat failure.

did you connect obd scanner and scan for codes not all codes cause cel light.

ecu in limp home mode limits rpm to arround 4000, but you would expect a cel light.

It's a manual.

I'll definitely check this. But but I did scan it with the ms300. No codes. No lights.

So guys, I had disconnected the negative terminal. It has seemed to fixed it? But I'm still worried. Any ideas what it may have been other than the cats/exhaust?

Edit. Nvm

Allang402 08-18-2015 07:32 PM

Btw, I've been having the idle dip problem.

CARBONGT86 08-18-2015 07:48 PM

Try setting the Rev limiter look on you tube how too. My idle dip came back on my 2013 brz and the dealer updated the ECU.

sounds like it was in limp home mode.

very strange you found no codes or no cel light.

assumed you scanned for codes before battery terminal removal, as resetting ecu clears all codes.

check battery volts and earth connections.

my 2 cents. it is in limp mode. any chance you have an obd2 scanner and torque app? If you log into torque before starting the car, the car will go into limp mode only allowing you to rev to 4k and.... turning off the AC (wonderful on a 95 degree day). I however, got a cel in this situation.

Allang402 08-20-2015 08:33 PM

I scanned a second time it gave me the code P0302. Cylinder misfire.. Where do I start on finding a solution?

SkiRideDrive 08-20-2015 08:41 PM

Coil pack failed?
