I was going 1km/h in a parking lot.. someone parked in front of me so my angle was very tight. I was parked at the end of the lot with a curb next to me.. highest curb i've ever seen.

Took the turn too tight and this happened.. any guestimates for how much this will cost to fix :(

I swear this is the sofest metal/steel i have ever touched!!!

Not gonna sugar coat it. That will cost you big! There is no easy/cheap way to fix that.
Light metals yes but anything short of 1/4 inch steel would have taken damage by the looks of that.

Just for reference this cost $1,200:

so apparently the replacement rocker panel costs about $400 and takes 2 hours to install.. then add paint etc. according to subaru.

luckily on mine there is no crease it's just a huge dent. Can't believe that costed you 1200!!!

they are saying if the damage also impacted the inner panel, that's another 200$ to replace

judging by the looks of it.. it most likely did

ButeraFRS 08-17-2015 02:26 PM

Me personally I'd just bondo it and paint it

Kuri 08-17-2015 02:27 PM

Ugh... body work...

I dented my rocker panel right in the front going off track into a gator strip...

it's the right-side rocker panel.. not sure how'd they confuse that

the repair estimate is better than i expected

not sure, that's coming straight from the horses mouth.

They said 2 hours to install a new one or 4 hours to repair this one. plus paint

I'm leaning towards a repair but i'm worried about rusting inside.. he said there might be a little bit of damage on the inner rocker but nobody will see it.

what they will do is drill holes, pull it back out, then prime, paint it, etc. if i opt for the repair.

do you have any pictures?

do you mind sharing how you chose to repair it?

I don't see how it could be installed in just 2 hours. Is it not a continuous panel with the rear quarter and door arch? Will have to be cut out and welded in, with all the associated filler and finish work.

Side skirts gogo!

Few ways to approach this. Pull it with a stud gun, replace the entire panel (whole side of car!) or cut a repair section from the quarter panel.

I was not able to find a partial repair section for the sills that was not the full rear quarter of the car.

I would go at it with the stud gun. If they are quoting two hours, this is the way I expect they are going. Skill dependent, but possible to get very good results.

Regardless of what they do, realize that the anti-rust coatings are going to be gone from any place where they weld. ie behind each stud. Bodyshops operate on a "5 years is good enough" mentality, so they are not really concerned about this.

by looking at that pic, id write it around $800ish. 10hrs body, 4.5hrs paint. pulling the metal, finishing out the body work. removing the quarter glass, tail light. re-undercoating the rocker, then paint the rocker/blend quarter/sail panel (no break off point). then you can remove one of the rubber caps under the rocker and spray an amber rust proofing wax back inside the rocker since the oem will burn off on the backside when you use the stud gun/dent puller.
