Strange Noise When Parked and Off Video

A lot of fellow friends of mine have wondered what the strange noise that occurs under the car near the gas tank after hours of no use. To clear things up I have made a video of the noise and an explanation after digging around in the users manual.

How is it actually doing this (what are the mechanics behind the noise)?

I believe it's a pump located in the fuel tank that increases pressure within the tank and checks for loss in PSI but I could be wrong. There are no statements stating what mechanics are at work in the manual.

So if you leave the gas cap slightly loose this thing will keep going and going? Then again you'll get a CEL, interesting!

I fixed it for you. And could've saved you time.

A lot of people don't know what to look for in terms of what it sounds like so I decided to make a video showing it.

Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound
coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

It's dubstep resonance left over from Skrillex music you been playing.

This is pretty much a norm on many, many new cars, including my 2014 CT200h for starters. Just because it's unique and "strange" on your car doesn't mean it is not uncommon.

It is the evap purge valve operating and is very very common across the vast majority of new cars on the road. A lot of Owner's Manuals will state this.

BTW, it is not "self checking for leaks". It is actually purging the charcoal canister.

From the manual:
Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine

Wrong info, my bad. It does actually purge when the car is in operation, but you just can't hear it.
