Damaged flywheel?

So I have been noticing a somewhat high pitched spinning/grinding noise. I notice it mostly when I am in 1st or second gear. I give it a little gas and as soon as I release the gas pedal I hear the noise. Its almost as if giving it gas gave the it the momentum to spin and make a grinding noise. Mind you I learned how to drive stick in this car.. so I have had my fair share of stalling out and riding the clutch before I got it down. I also hear this noise sometimes when I put the car into gear. It feels like its caught on something, then when I push hard enough it feels like I pushed something that starts the spinning/grinding noise. Could I have damaged my flywheel during the learning process of driving stick? My car is still under warranty for about 3000 more miles and I was wondering if the dealership can fix this. Any suggestions would be great thanks guys.

Also the car has been lowered, aftermarket tail lights, drop in air filter and rims. Will any of these void my warranty if I take it in like this?

Well, if the noise is drivetrain related, it would more likely to be a warn clutch plate or a whacked out pressure plate, rather than the flywheel.

Could be a messed up throwout bearing.

Yep, good plan, take it into the dealership for a checkup.

I doubt your car's warranty work (for this disorder) would be denied because of lowering or lights or rims or filter.

Thanks @humfrz I'll deffinitely be taking it in then. Oh also as far as voiding my warranty work, what if I did my own oil changes.?

You should be fine with your own oil change. I flushed out my radiator, did my own oil change, removed my gas tank and had it cleaned and no issues at dealer today informing them of it. If they give you cr@p, go to the next one. Ask to take techy on ride along, show them your issue, then have them drive it, speak to them w/o office/window service personnel and you'll see they more patient, and might even thank you for giving them a chance to get some fresh air. This way you get more direct help.

You should be OK. I'd suggest you have a little notebook with noted mileage, date(s) and how much of, and what kind of, oil & filter you used, just in case they should ask you.

I hope your car's problem is not serious ..... :sigh:

Love the idea of taking a tech along with me. The only problem is I only hear the noise CLEARLY at night when there's no outside noise. And also the issue with having to shove it into gear only happens sometimes. Don't want to look like the idiot that claims all these issues with my car then when I show up there's nothing wrong hahah.

Do what I did:

-Recorded on Ipod to capture specific issues
-Recorded on GoPro 24/7 whenever I was driving
-Kept journal of issues with time, date, small explanation of issue, and what I was doing at the moment the issue rose up. Also, tried to pinpoint issue note added.

If noise is an issue, take techy to where it is quiet. I took mine 20min away from dealer to back-roads so he could hear clutch. :iono:

Hmm well I don't have an ipod nor a go pro. Plus I doubt I would be able to get a good audio recording of the sound. I'll try driving around tonight and see if there's a pattern of what I do that causes the sound/gear seeming to get jammed. Thanks for your suggestions they are much appreciated

lol no problem. I meant for you to just get some type of footage. Otherwise, depending on your tech, they might ignore you lol
