He's referencing gear oil, not engine oil.

Thanks. I actually run Valvoline Synthetic 0w20 in my car. I was wondering what everyone was using in there transmissions. I see most run Redline or Mogul. Just Wondering if anyone is running royal purple maxgear and how good the quality was.
Thanks.

I ran Motul 300 in my last transmission. Shifted smoothly once the car got warm. Didn't get rid of the odd rattle though, I needed a new tranny to fix that.

Thanks for the information. My FRS had 17400 when I picked it up and now has just shy of 18500 miles and I'm looking to replace both the diff and transmission fluids(no idea what the previous owner did to it). I've used Royal Purple in my manual transmission in my last car, 09' corolla xrs with no issues so Im thinking of giving it a try in my new car.

RP is a GL5, factory fill is a GL3/4

Why are you changing the fluid anyway?

MaxGear is a GL4/5, just like Motul. It can be used either in manual transmissions or differentials. Besides, you can't buy GL3 fluid anyway. All qualified oils are either GL4 or GL5.

There's a large difference between GL4 and GL5. Mainly that GL5 is designed for hypoid gears and contains friction modifier for limited slip differentials. This additive pack historically doesn't like to play well with Aisin transmissions as a general rule, causing hard shifting because the syncro isn't allowed to work correctly.

GL fluids don't supersede, no matter how hard the dealer tells you otherwise...
