Texas rules on mods

Hi all,
So I'm currently in San Diego and just put an offer on a home in Trophy Club for a relocation. I can't seem to find a straight answer on what to expect with a Denton County vehicle inspection and what mods are allowed....can anyone point me to an answer or resource?

Thanks!

I cannot point you to a particular location, but I can tell you Texas will be much more relaxed. In terms of CARB legal at least.

And by mods being allowed, please elaborate? It's not like the local police are going to pull you over and search you haha. In terms of emissions, you should be able to pass with the set up you have, if your signature is any indication.

Nice congrats! You'll be in my neck of the woods :D

In terms of your mods you will be fine, cops don't crack down and pull you over for suspicion of illegal mods as @weederr mentioned. As for safety inspection/emissions you should be fine as long as you don't have a CEL. They just check if you have a CEL and have no leaks with your gas cap. If you pass that you're golden.

Wow - awesome! My baby is still getting her engine rebuilt (upper and lower) and then she goes in for the SSP transmission upgrades. She should be done in a week or two if all goes well and should be here with me in July. I'll have to find you guys at the next meet or something - thx for the help!

I'd love to ride along sometime to check out the SSP upgrades with the power of the Kraftwerks kit . When I go FI I will go with all of the SSP options.

This link to DOMV might be interesting to read or it could put u to sleep.

Several other links can found from that website home page.

Good luck with your move from SD

I'm in for what @JonAvalon wishes, too!

It's not just that you can't have a CEL on, you can only have one (1) "not ready" code via OBDII scan.

FWIW, I passed a legit state inspection with my car. No cat, Yada yada. The only not ready code I have is for the evap system, and that's only at high boost (almost positive I have a fix for that, so I should be 100% able to pass with no freebie code soon). They didn't even open my hood.

Nice! I've heard in certain counties they're increasing the inspection levels and Denton county was one so I was hoping they weren't moving towards CA-style standards - sounds like not :)

Mine was inspected in Denton County (in Denton city, no less) last month. I live in Tarrant County, and my other vehicles get inspected in either Tarrant or Denton counties, depending on where I'm at with whatever vehicle when I realize it needs to be inspected. Neither county is getting any stricter from what I've experienced. If anything, I think it's gotten more lax: I know when I first had my Pathfinder inspected they test drove it. Was not the case with the FRS last month..whether that's normal or not nowadays I do not know, but I can tell you Tuesday when I get the Lexus inspected.

I see you're moving from California. Be prepared to be able to have tons of fun modding your car with minimal repercussions!

If your car can pass inspections then you have nothing to worry about. Some inspection places can be really anal about window tint so my only advice would be to watch out for that.

Also, I'm not quite sure about California but Texas is a 2 plate state. Some officers won't care but some are sticklers for that rule. Also having 2 plates won't give them a reason to pull you over.

Just to let you know, you will have to be careful with your tune on your car if you have one. I failed instantly without a CEL because the EVAP system never came on. I had to flash back to stock to pass, then flash my tune back afterwards to pass.

Otherwise, I have an aftermarket catless header with a full headerback, and all sorts of mods and the police don't care. At one point I had the Invidia N1 and they still don't care. I also wasn't a jackass in the early hours with it (minus cold start).

I've been pulled over for this stupid reason. Drove 8 months without a front plate, and then some random highway patrol pulls me over while taking the long way home....

Also, the State of Texas does not care about TPMS. You'll still pass inspection with the TPMS light on.
