Ok, so yeah who here hates bottoming out your front bumper cover on those unavoidable entrances but doesn't want to raise the ride height on your car?

I myself never really wanted to add a lip spoiler or anything to the front due to the fact that my BRZ has a great body line and looks awesome when lowered.

I came across the ProTekt Bumper Skidplates on MotoIQ.com
http://photos.motoiq.com/photos/i-gW.../i-gWd4KZd.jpg
http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticl...kidplates.aspx

It totally reminded me of the old Powell Peralta jaw bones, rib bones and tail bones.

Since they worked so well back in the day I wanted to check it out for my BRZ. Placed the order online and 3 days later had my BRZ kit ready to go ($170 shipped is cheap insurance to save my BRZ bumper).

https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...96551264_o.jpg

I however took a different approach on the install from MotoIQ since I was pulling my bumper cover to do a oil cooler install anyhow.

Here is what I didn't want to see after pulling my bumper cover. I knew they were there but still, yuck.

Anyhow brought it inside and got to work (drill needed and some basic hand tools).

A portion of the holes line up directly with those already existing. With that said you will need to drill a few. Just remember to line it up how you want it to fit and snug it down prior to drilling the other holes in your bumper.

Install on the bumper is a breeze. It also helped stiffen it up a bit.

Now time to let pics speak for themselves.

Such a close fit

Here are also some daylight pics too

So far it has saved me from a couple more gouges in the bumper already in the 1 week I have had it on. I am really looking forward to seeing how well it helps the bumper survive cone hits also when autocrossing too.

thanks for the post. didnt know that they released the BRZ version. definitely going to get a set of these soon.

Thanks for your post! Please check back in from time-to-time with updates (especially regarding long term durability / wear). Like you and many others I absolutely hate the scraping. I'm on-the-fence regarding this and / or a "lip" (kit). This kit being the cleaner solution but maybe the lip being more durable in terms of having more area / thickness to wear? Seems like either would have to be replaced on occasion depending on use / abuse.

Have a good one!...

Yeah I did here it hit the ground in Iowa this past Monday on my way home from Nebraska. Haven't surveyed it yet though. I will take a pic and post when I have a chance.

Good alternative to a lip but a bit pricey at $173.50 shipped for a FR-S. This includes 9% CA sales tax, $13.50. Why sales tax for out of CA buyers?? Emailed him but no answer yet. http://www.protektskidplates.com/buy-now.html

I am sure he will get back with you shortly on it.

As for cost, Super cheap compared to replacing a bumper. even more so on the FRS. This totally reinforces the bumper when it gets hit with stuff.

The U.S. has no federal sales tax. Unless he has a business presence in my state he is not compelled to collect sales tax from me. If he did it would be at the TN sales tax rate, not CA. Amazon does have a business presence in my state, 2 distribution centers, so they must charge me TN state sales tax.
TN expects you to include the sales tax on all internet purchases you did not pay TN sales tax on in your TN state tax return, but few people do.

And whats up with his order pages. He charges sales tax for the FR-S skid plates but not for the BRZ. http://www.protektskidplates.com/buy-now.html

From his Paypal checkout:

Your order summary
Descriptions Amount
ProTEKt Skid Plate FRS $150.00
Item number: protekt FRS
Item price: $150.00
Quantity: 1
Item total $150.00

Your order summary
Descriptions Amount

Item number: BRZ2015
Item price: $160.00
Quantity: 1
Item total $160.00

Also sells on eBay. FRS skid plates item price is higher but NO sales tax charge so total is lower???? http://www.ebay.com/itm/ProTEKt-Scio...-/291234049524

Hey guys, Mitch here, from ProTEKt.

First, let me say thanks for pointing out the issue with the website. The PayPal buttons have been fixed (I think! ) with no sales tax for the FRS, and the shipping price corrected to accurately reflect the actual shipping costs I pay.

Just a little background here, I am an engineering and fabrication guy, designing and producing all my own parts, but I really don't have any website skills, so it is being set up by one of my friends in his spare time. We are trying hard to make sure everything is perfect, but sometimes stuff still gets by us.

Also, I know that we all work hard for our money, and that we want to get the most we can for every dollar, so I am trying hard to make sure to provide the best quality stuff, for a reasonable price. The plates themselves are CNC cut from marine grade high density polyethylene plastic, which has a very low friction coefficient, and is almost impossible to wear out, but is pretty spendy. All the hardware is full stainless steel so it never rusts, but is also not cheap. All design, manufacturing, and packaging is done by me personally, (no employees, no china)

My business model is based on providing a great part, that fits and works well, and hopefully let folks enjoy their car a little more, for a reasonable price. If my goal was to scam folks, or get rich quick, then I am going the wrong way, for sure!!

Thanks!
Mitch

Good question!

The skid plates are made from 3/8 thick HDPE plastic, and are specifically designed to scrape the ground over and over, and keep looking good!

Also, all the mounting hardware is fully countersunk, and are nuts, washers and bolts. (No drywall screws or self tapping stuff)

I've been selling these for a little more than a year, and I have never seen one worn out, even when they are abused.
