Ice Chests That Fit In Trunk
 

This is a bit of an odd one: I end up doing quite a large amount of road trips (30k miles and only had it a year and a half) and I have had an issue finding a hard sided ice chest that fits in my trunk to keep my various beverages cold, and does not throw water everywhere. I was just curious what y'all were using.
I have a big one (igloo Yukon) for my larger/camping/race track weekend needs, I just need a small one for the day tripping.

Why not just go soft sided with ice packs? Solves the splash problem and you can keep it in the back seat so those beverages are more easily accessible.

I have one of these. It fits, but it has to sit in the middle of the trunk, and the handle nearly touches the top. I put a towel on it, if I'm going on a spirited drive.

Its not very big but fits perfectly for my track days.

I have not considered the cold packs before. My only concerns with those is having to refreeze them for the return journey that and the Texas heat. But that is still something to add to my list of things to consider.

I have one of these stackable coleman ones and should fit with no problems.

I have seen them recently at Target or Walmart and should allow you to put some things on top of it.

That flat stackable cooler is nifty and cheap, and based on your last reply, it may be suitable for your needs (though you mentioned Texas heat).

Personally, I wanted something:

• More insulated (even up here in relatively temperate Massachusetts)
• Tall enough to hold 1 liter refillable bottles upright

I went with a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Bear-Coolers-Pack-Cooler/dp/B003KU02KU"]Polar Bear 12[/ame].

It wasn't cheap ($44), but is easy to pack and carry, easily fits in the FT86 trunk (along with other gear), and is rated to keep ice in 100 degree temps for 24 hours (and food hot up to 200 degrees for hours).

+1 for the Colmen Stackable. I have one, fits great.

I always pull everything out down to the metal and line the floor with foil to insulate against all radiant heat from below (road and exhaust system) heat etc. Even better with a thin layer of anything non conductive under the foil. Combined with a white car and cold things wrapped in a blanket I find it remarkable how long they stay cold.
