Clicking sound when shifting into 4th?
I was at a stop light and the roads were empty so I decided to wring the car out, and when shifting into 4th at around 5500-7000 rpms I hear a loud clicking like plastic snapping into place, I don't think it's grinding because there's no extra resistance just a loud clicking/snapping sound and it only happens in 4th at those rpms anyone else notice this?
If this has been mentioned before please link the thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
That clicking sound is coming from the plastic piece that you normally lift up in order to shift into reverse.

Thanks

I always thought it was the synchros clicking into place. It became more muted after I switched to Motul 300 tranny fluid, and also isn't as apparent when I take a little more time with the 3rd-4th throw.

Nah the synchros would be like a metallic sound.
The reverse gear lifter (I don't even know what's the correct name for it) is held down by a spring loaded cable, but it hops a tiny bit if you shift into a gear that has a little resistance, so it makes a stupid pop noise. This became noticeable to me after installing the STI short shifter, and when shifting at high rpm range which would obviously require a little more force compare to low rpm shifting. |
