I am a total noob. I just want to lower my car for aesthetic purposes. HELP!

I own a 2014 Scion FR-S. I just want to lower my car to make it look "cool".

The car is used for city driving only, not for racing. So I am just a casual driver.

I have tried to go though some of the threads on here, but the language I come across goes right over my head…so please forgive me if I have to create this newbish thread out of desperation lol. As such, can someone tell me exactly what components I need to just lower my car?

Broadly, I understand you need coilovers.. right? What is a good brand you recommend that is reliable and not too expensive? And all the specifics/sizes/etc that go along with it.. And how much in terms of $$$ will this put me out?

Thank you!

It Really depends how much lower you want to go. Around 1" will be better value, any lower than that I would look at coilovers. I think Stance make some which will take you significantly lower than stock if you really want. Expect your ride quality to be worse the lower you go unless you spend some money.

We are not mind readers. You say you want to something "not too expensive" but we have no idea how much that is. Give us a budget then we can start suggesting. :)

I would say just get a good set of lowering springs and call it a day. No need to spend close to $1k for budget coilovers and slam it to hell. too low is also a bad thing, especially when you need to start planning your routes to avoid bumps, or carry blocks of wood with you to use as ramps.

Yeah if you just want to lower it for looks I would suggest going with springs since they're a lot less expensive.

cdrazic93 04-21-2015 02:35 AM

the common practice is to get rid of wheel gap, is this something youd be interested in? because there's several lowering springs that will do this.

HueyLooie 04-21-2015 02:56 AM

You guys are awesome!

I suppose i would like to go with the lowering springs option since that seems to be the common suggestion! An inch or two is preferrable, but no more. Can we achieve 2 inches you think? I run a front lip spoiler and side skirts...fyi.

What do lowering springs cost, usually?

What is this wheel gap you speak of? Is that the gap above the wheel and the fender?

And if so, yes, it is what im interested in.

Just because I sell parts like headlights and lug nuts in the marketplace doesn't automatically make me an expert in suspension matters, you piece of shit condescending asswipe.

Wow, I just spit coffee all over my keyboard after reading that.....

cut your springs, saves lots of money and you can set it the way you want it, not like some other manufacturer who knows better.

If you can't type two words in Google: "wheel gap", and don't respect people's time in answering such easily found questions, that puts you on the path of trolling. In any community, you'll find people get upset when you ask the most basic questions without doing any type of research at all yourself. I actually don't understand how you can sell car parts without knowing a little about cars? Google "frs suspension". There are photos, articles, items to buy, etc. all on the first page! There's also a link to an ft86club thread on the first page: "Suspension Tips, for those who want to lower this car." If you want to be spoon fed information, I don't think you'll find any community that will accept you.

Ok, after all that.. sorry for calling you a troll, but that it literally what it looks like you're doing. As for selling items.. personally, I would have more confidence in buying if you knew more about the parts you were selling and in cars in general.
