My BRZ is Alive!! Upgraded Final Drive

My car has woken up, it now drives like it looks.

I just finished my 4.44 final drive install. My car is currently just about stock so 4.44 is a mild choice but still woke the car up nicely. It doesn't feel like a econo car anymore.

Vids or pics on how it looks so I can see how it drives.
Where did you get the parts from?

I don't know how to capture it on camera without doing a before and after video. The car is just more eager to go and quick through the gears. With a stock motor is still not exactly fast but its way more fun to drive. I only did a 4.44 because I have a turbo going back on but this upgrade gave the car the push it needed to feel like the sports car it should be.

I got the gear set from MFactory, rebuild kit from Weir, and some seals and shims from the dealer.

I see people spending so much money on different exhausts and intakes chasing 2 more hp. Honestly if you are staying NA go with a 4.56 or 4.67 and it will be money way way better spent.

This, but I'd have to drive the car for about a week or so to see if the gains are worth the drawbacks.

+3 I had been on the fence about this for awhile

I have the automatic and went with 4.88s. Best mod I have done to the car.
1 second off my 0 to 60 time
1.5 seconds off my 30 mph to 70 mph time.

Much more reliable and less expensive than any FI. Very simple and will work great with taller wheels and tires. Milage could suffer. Depends on the tire height and how you are on the skinny pedal.

I think the gas mileage offset is over exaggerated, yes going real high will have an effect but your right foot makes more of a difference then anything.

What are your RPMs at highway speeds? That's my major concern - I don't want to be screaming at 5k going 80.

cdrazic93 04-16-2015 09:42 PM

Its a slight upgrade from the stock (4.1?) So 6th crusing rpms at 80 mph wouldnt be much off what it is stock. I'll let someone else do the calcualtions.

mrk1 04-16-2015 09:59 PM

80mph with be like 3700 with a 4.56 final drive, stock is just under 3500, so my 4.44 should be around 3600. Not at all what I would call screaming.

swarb 04-16-2015 10:01 PM

^really? that is not bad at all. Can you reconfirm? Why did you go 4.44 instead of 4.56? I thought it was closer to 500-600 rpm difference.

mrk1 04-16-2015 10:06 PM

I have charts from Cusco but cant load them up in a legible size. I went with 4.44 because I have a turbo going on so don't need to go as high.
