Should I get my HPFP replaced?
 

I'm nearing the end of my warranty. I can have the hpfp replaced if I choose to. Should I go ahead and replace it while it's free or screw it- it won't make any difference and the dealer can possible fubar my car while they're in there...?

I'd say don't fix what's not broken. Been driving with crickets for 2 years 46k miles and no problems, and I am not aware of them anymore or maybe they are gone : )

Wouldn't worry about it too much. There's nothing wrong with the fuel pump, why risk something going wrong?

I'll share another viewpoint. I knew that there was a good possibility the crickets wouldn't be fixed with hpfp replacement but I did it anyway because I'd rather have the “latest part " in the car for future warranty purposes.

That might change things since your warranty is about to expire anyways. If I was in your situation I'd get it replaced.

If it isn't knocking like a woodpecker, I wouldn't bother unless you have full 1000% confidence that they won't fuck it up. The only reason I got mine swapped was because of woodpeckers and even then, I regret it or at the very least regret that I had it done where I did.

Why not? A free, new pump. If they screw up something in the process (doubtful unless your dealer's service dept sucks) they will have to fix that.

I'm currently debating it. Mine has already been replaced early last year. My service adviser in the fall said to check back early 2015 because there was suppose to be another revision. He said to come back before 36K miles regardless if I wanted another repalcement, which I am closing in on. But so far this year it hasn't been that big of a annoyance, I think I'm used to it now and just joke about it every time.

If you don't have crickets then I really see no point. At first I was hesitant to get mine replaced since I was under the impression that the crickets would just come back. However, ever since I got my new HPFP in 15,000 miles ago they have never come back (knock on wood!). The choice really is entirely yours.

In a way it may be worth it just to have it on record. There were at least a couple of guys that got new ones even out of warranty (buried in one of the 10 million cricket threads someplace) because the latest version was supposed to stop the crickets (it didn't but that is beside the point). If a real fix ever shows up and your dealer will play ball they just may go for it since you had it changed once already.

If the dealer is known for good work, I would get it done because you will have a new HPFP with less mileage and wear and tear.

Also, if you changed it once and it's on record, you can probably ask for the new revision if it ever gets fixed.
