Intake resonator removal?
In the just for giggles department, has anyone removed the resonator from the air box?
Would it change the sound from the engine bay? If you have a SC would the wine be louder? Would it have an effect on power? I thought it might give a little more room in the engine bay. :iono: |
Your last point is correct, that's all

I wonder if the original intent was for sound suppression as a resonator, or for flow control as a volume buffer to help with intake pulses. With a SC I would think both are not needed.
I was looking for someone who might have tried it. |

I'm on about the main one at the front. The others make no or little difference. |
I mishimoto tested this during their intake development and concluded it was worth a few HP. assuming you meant the resonator and not the sound tube.

Don't do it, you will burn out your flux

I have been worried about the flux capacitor from the start.
Thank you for the test data, but somehow it reads differently to me. On the stock intake with and without the resonator the hp. stays at 167, the torque goes from 133 to 134, and the big difference is in the sound changing from 87 to 90 db. Torque gain seems very small hp. is the same, so the big difference is in the sound. They said. "We also saw a loss in power with the resonator removed, so the resonator should be retained if you are using the factory airbox setup." That is not apparent in the test data they showed. So,to me it is used for sound control from their test data. Thank you for the input, I think I will go for more room. |
Removing it caused me to get an AF ratio all over the place when I dynoed.
