cooling mod for supercharger

My car has a vortech supercharger with FMIC currently making 270whp, and supporting mods includes koyo radiator and perrin oil cooler. So lately while tracking it in the 80s degree weather here in Virginia I have seen oil temperature hitting 251 degrees so I have to back out a little to let it cool down. Is that a dangerously high temperature? I am running Mobil1 0w-40.

Before getting into vented hood(I would like to retain the factory look), any other mods I could use to help with cooling under track use? thanks in advance

I am also running Crawford AOS if that matters at all

251 F oil temps aren't dangerously high, but I think the Perrin 10 row Setrab core is a bit too small for your application. I'd switch to a bigger 15 row core and measure temps with it and go from there.

Are you running a V3 or V2 Vortech SC?

so would bigger cooler core block more air to go into the FMIC? Right now my core is already sitting in the way of the fmic. V3 H67B is my model on the vortech.

The oil cooler allows air to pass through it anyways so I don't think a bigger core will make a noticeable difference to how your intercooler performs. You can always monitor Intake Air Temps before and after to be sure. If it becomes a problem you can get an oil cooler that mounts behind the intercooler like the Jackson Racing offering.

I'd be very cautious about tracking the V3.

It not the the temps that is the issue; its the oil pressure at 120C that is worrying.....

wow that's certainly alarming. thanks for bringing this up. I am currently on a trip at VIR and have 4 more days of HPDE this week (I already finished 4 days so far). I hope it will hold up till end of the week, as soon as I am back I will contact Vortech to upgrade to the V2. Anyone here want to shed some light on how much the upgrade costs?

Good luck.

I don't recommend you using the search feature of this site.. it's terrible.

Use google, instead.

1. Open Google.com search browser

2. Type in what you want to search for, followed by the following text: site:ft86club.com

3. Enjoy the focused search results

You can easily swap out the perrin 13 row series 6 setrab core for a 15, 20, 25 row series 9 setrab.

You may even be able to mount this core behind your intercooler depending on how flexible the intercooler mounting is (or depending on your ability to create new mounts for the intercooler). In my case, my intercooler had just enough space between it and the condenser to fit in my 25 row setrab core. Also, the radiator can be moved forwards or backwards as desired with a little bit of DIY work on the top radiator brackets.

Thanks for all the information people. just called up vortech and got an RA number. the upgrade costs 1000 dollars. One thing I also found is it seems like driving with AC on also helps the temperature down a bit. on a related note, my AC is not cold anymore. ugh

ive done my searching, but see conflicting answers about whether I need a retune going from V3 to V2. some say they make same amount of boost hence no retune needed while others say they have different impeller size?

A/C triggers your second rad fan generally, if the A/C isn't working the condenser won't have to release any heat because there wont be any pressure in the lines, but the second fan will probably still stay on and provide extra air flow at lower speeds.

You will not need a retune. it is the same blower with a different unit to handle lubrication (self lubricated versus fed from the oil pan. Please see the following thread for more information:

It is possible to send in your current V3 blower for an oil-fed "upgrade". More information is available in the thread I linked.
