Small, Low-lag turbo?
 

First, excuse my cluelessness in the subject on FI in general, but are there any small turbo kits out there? I mean ones that'll start spooling in the 1.5k RPM range, similar to that of a GTI or GenCoupe (10-12). I know it'll be a very small power boost, but will give decent kick in low end torque/power right?
Please be kind in correcting me as again, I'm new to this all. Would just be interested in a turbo that could spool quickly with small gains.

No there are none that come like that standard.

Very few want a tiny turbo that CHOKES the engine in the upper rpms. Most people who care about performance take off their stock tiny turbos and put on a turbo that allows the engine to breathe and not choke at high rpms.

If you want low end, go with a positive displacement supercharger system like the Cosworth kit, upcoming Edelbrock E-Force, or the Sprintex 210.

A custom wastegated Vortech kit and get some great low end w/ power in the upper rpm range is a good option. Just my 2cents

You beat me to it. While it isn't going to be spooled up by 1500 rpm, it will be spooled up within any normal driving if you have a standard. I haven't driven the auto, but from what I've read that will drop down to 1500 rpm, so I don't think there's any helping those. Maybe a crawford kit.:iono:

As the gents above have said, AVO seems to be the answer for you, with your goals in mind and a tune done accordingly.

use VGT turbos

Like he said: VGT is a variable geometry turbo while the VNT used in most Volkswagen and Audi Turbo-Diesels is a variable vane turbo. They both use variable nozzles or vanes to control flow, rather than a waste-gate, so they can spool up at a much lower RPM. They cost a bit more, but use the same vacuum motor to operate that the waste-gates use. You would have to have a custom tune done since no off-the-shelf turbo tune is designed to handle boost at low RPM's. You would have to have custom piping, a custom tune, an electronic boost controller, and custom installation at great expense. Why not just get a supercharger instead?
