Winter Car Care Tips - Salt Removal Wash

Helpful Winter Tips

• Keeping your vehicle as clean as possible during the winter will go a long way to cut down the damage done by salt and sand.
• Take your vehicle to the car wash as often as possible. If you can get to your undercarriage as well that would be a plus.
• Make sure to protect your car with your favorite wax or sealant.

Make sure the car is completely dry

• Carefully dry the edges of the doors inside and out, including the undersides of door handles, all hinges, plus the hood and trunk edges. This helps keep them from freezing shut.
• Use a good quality spray protectant on all exterior rubber or vinyl surfaces. It may be best to spray they applicator you are using instead of spraying the product directly onto the surface. This will avoid any overspray onto the paint.

Interior Mats - Salt Removal - just as important make sure your interior is free and clear of salt as it will cause long term damage to your interior bits and pieces.

perfect timing! What is the best why to remove the salt from the Mats??? How did you do it?? Wash them??

depending on how bad your mats are you can use the following

Interior Brush
1Z einszett Plastic Deep Cleaner
Microfiber Towel
Metro Vac

What we did on the Porsche mats were spritz the plastic deep cleaner on the mats, then we used a brush to agitate, then a clean towel to pull the salt from it. After did a nice vac on them.

How do you suggest we care for the salt and stuff when we don't have the luxury of an inside spot to wash the car?

You can google for a few other. The rinseless wash can work as well...note the word can.

Personally, i go to one of the self car washes and just wash off the salt with the high pressure water. I still have synthetic wax on car which does last me the whole harsh winter, which is why i don't use any of the soap from the self wash places - since the soap can remove the wax. I also don't dry the car either, since i know there's still dirt on the paint that will only cause swirl marks.

do what Larry is doing in the video, but cost are high for a good steamer, or go to a good coin op or touch less wash, or a trusted detailer in your area.

Is there a spray that I can use to remove grime and dirt?

I want to rinse the car, spray "special spray that you will recommend" and then rinse the car again and 70-90% of the dirt and grime is removed... without touching the car?


Then I will do an agitated car wash.
