DIY: License Plate Rattle? Fix Inside!
1 Attachment(s)
I'm OCD. Welcome to my life.
This DIY will show you how you can resolve the rattle from your rear license plate if you are not using a license plate frame. Story: When I received my license plates, I realized there was a major problem with the trunk mounted one. It wasn't sitting flush. I'm assuming this was because I wasn't rocking a license plate frame. I had to come up with a solution. It rattled and was driving me crazy!! Solution: I went to my local autoparts store, and couldn't find anything. So, I made a trip to my local hardware store. They had what I was looking for! PLASTIC O-RINGS! Screw these bad boys on, and voila... No more rattle! Total Time: 5 minutes |

I think at higher speeds the turbulence from behind the car will make your license plate flop around. I have the weathertech license plate cover. In addition to that I took a foam or rubber that has a double sided tape (not very thick) stuck 4 behind the license plate so it doesn't scratch the paint. There is no gap between the license plate and my trunk. Never heard any kind of noise from my trunk area.

I thought of it, but didn't like the fact of putting two-sided tape on my brand new car. |

I was just concerned with the curve of your license plate at the bottom. The air tends to circulate up at the back of the car from the turbulence. That can cause it to flop around. I wouldn't use double sided tape on my car either. It gets messy trying to take it off. I used these rubbarized foam with an adhesive on the back of it. I found these to be helpful for a couple of reason. 1st there's no protection from the aluminum plate to the trunk which = scratch if it moves around. 2nd if you have a subwoofer the rubbarized foam will dampen the vibration from the trunk which = no vibration. |
I put foam weather stripping on the back of the tag.

Any gains in HP or or Torque from this mod? :D

I outlined my license plate with Damplifier Pro
Currently have a JL 12W6V2 pounding away and no rattles- from the plate ;) Just put some CLD on the back of it and call it a day... |
