Upgrade Wheels RS1.0
Hello everyone. I'm very new to this site and I've been doing research for the past couple of weeks, so please bear with me.
I have a '15 RS1.0 and I'm looking to upgrade wheels/tires. I'm running the stock suspension (TRD lowering springs). I'm looking for a flush flt, maybe a slight poke. I'm trying to figure out what I can get by with without any rub inside or out. I'd like the idea of an 18x9 rim and a meatier tire, but I'm wondering if I can get away with this on stock suspension. I like the Avant Garde M310 18x9 +30 on 245/35R18 tires. What do you guys think? |
The sticky above has tons of fitment examples, pictures, and answers to all your questions.

Yes, I've found plenty on the wheels and tires, but my main concern is whether or not it will work with the stock RS1.0 suspension. I haven't ran across a thread that addresses this exact topic yet.
|
from what I know, the suspension is the same, just has TRD springs. Clearances should be the same as any other FRS/BRZ on lowering springs.
|
^^ This, the RS suspension isn't any different (other than ride height) from every other stock FRS/BRZ/GT86 out there. Look at examples at a similar ride height (not on coilovers) and you'll be fine.
For a 9" wheel you're going to want around +35 for clearance, but it'll definitely poke a bit without some camber. |
I appreciate all the feedback. What would be a good summer tire? I really like the Nitto Invo, but can't find in a 245/35, plus I'm not hearing too many good things regarding treadwear.

What do you want out of the tire? Max grip? Best life?

With a completely stock motor, I'm also concerned that a 9" wide wheel will noticeably slow the car down. Any comments? |
it will make the car slower... but it is brand new to you so in no way are you use to it, so switching to 9" and adding weight will not really confuse you.
However if you put the money up and get a super light weight wheel, you will not be hit with any weight penalty and just get added grip |
the car is slow already...it won't really be noticeable. I had 18x9 on my car when it was stock.
Unless you're being paid to race/win, don't worry about weight...IMO Everyone on here likes to talk a big talk about weight(A LOT of people on here are "on paper" racers) and blah blah blah, but it makes relatively little difference except for a few fast folk on here. Have you looked at the hankook v12 evo2? Decent tire, decent treadwear. Also, the +30 might be a bit much, but you'd have to double check...My wheels were 18x9 +40. But consult the wheel/tire thread for more aggressive fitments. |

Will the +40 offset clear the stock suspension? The only reason I've stated a +30 offset is because I was pretty sure it was safe. If I can go with a larger offset, I'd like to. I believe I can get the M310s in a +38. And the +30 will just give me more poke right? There be other differences, but like I stated this is a new area for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
