K&N idle dip
 

I have a K&N intake (not my first choice but it came with the car.) Personally I dont think it looks good and the design looks more of a warm air intake then a cold air since the box is hardly sealed.

However, i dont have the stock and dont feel its worth wasting a $300 intake setup just because of the idle dip i have.

I know there is a TSB on the idle dip but Subaru states that the "tech verified high idle due to K&N cone filter". I think this is bull as the system should be able to learn the subtle intake improvements but they refused to reflash the system to fix the idle dip.

So my question for you guys is: should a new intake cause the dip/high rpm?I'm seeing the 750rpm drop to 500 then back, sometimes reaching 1000 for a short while. Or are they full of crap and just trying to get out of doing the work? I've already had it with this dealership and plan on going to a different one if I have to.

Toyota didnt want to flash the ecu update for my car either because I have a Zeta inlet tube, even though I had the idle dip issue at stop lights with the stock intake. Time to invest in an OFT..

Yeah I've been looking into that if not RomRaider at least, it just bothers me to spend more money on something that they can fix. I can live a little longer without launch control, 10+HP, and the torque dip if i could just get this Idle dip fixed for now

Does idle dip happen with stock intake ?

If yes put stock intake on and get dealer to reflash


If no then its probably caused by the K&N intake upsetting the MAF Mass Air flow scaling and hence your running large fuel trims and incorrect AFR. It can be fixed by rescaling maf sensor to suit intake.

Intakes make sod all power on NA cars.

Unfortunately OP doesn't have the stock intake system. He bought the car with the K&N system already installed. :(

OP, the OEM reflash may not fix your idle dip if it is a maf scaling issue.

Did you check for loose fittings and such? I had some idling problems, and it turned out to be just some loose fittings causing havoc with the MAF. I tightened everything up, and idle problems went away.

they are tight as far as i could tell but its cold and snowing and i dont have a garage to take the wrenches to it. There only seems to be the clamp over the intake and the two bolts holding the MAF that would cause any trouble. am i missing something?

what is this scaling that needs done? would the MAF maybe need spacers or something to correct the issue?

Edit: nevermind, a quick search on scaling leads me back to needing a tune.
