if you're gonna tap it, you better wrap it!

Nothing documented, but I have Torque up and running all the time in my car. Since I installed unwrapped/catless headers, I've noticed no difference in oil temps or iat's. I have noticed it seems the "Cat1BS1" variable, which is some form of exhaust temperature, has lowered quite a bit with the unwrapped/catless headers. I seem to remember the stock header exhaust temps generally being in the 1000-1200 range regularly, with the new header it is more like in the 900-1100 range. Of course, there's no cat, so that might make perfect sense - I'm not really sure what the variable actually is.

I think it would make sense that the EGT's would be higher with wrapped or coated exhaust because they help keep the heat IN, and keep the heat from radiating out, into the engine bay or wherever.
Also without cats, there's probably less backpressure, so less time for the exhaust to heat things up. Quote:

having no cat makes the biggest difference to exhaust temps
as a cat will increase back pressure so it slows the exhaust flow and therefore increases the EGT plus the cataylst once its up and reacting will generate its own heat |

I've read a thing or two about failed coil packs, and maybe extra heat had something to do with it (it certainly wouldn't help). |
Due to lack of any real data, I broke down and am just shipping them to Swaintech today.
Thanks for the responses. |
