ECU/flash update
I bought my FRS in January 2013, late 2012 build, never been back to the dealer... But, I've read I may benefit/need an ECU update? Yes/no? Any Bay Area dealers worth a damn or somewhere/someone else that could update for me?
Thanks. |

Couldn't hurt to check. ECU flashes are pretty straight forward, so any dealer should be able to do it. Keep in mind, for some reason it took my dealer (Livermore Subaru) a couple hours for the ECU TSB update. They said it would only take 30 mins, I was pissed...

Ok, that helps. I've been looking at doing a tune but thought a flash from the dealer first would be beneficial. Looks like a tune will do it all. Thanks.

You're in the same bucket as me, 12/12 build date and I'm 99% sure that we have the outdated tune that was blamed for the injector seals melting. I only found confirmation on the updated tune on 03/13 built cars and definitely outdated on 11/12 built cars, in between is a bit of a black hole.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41130 Don't freak out and think the sky is falling, there are maybe at most a couple hundred people who were affected out of the 30,000+ units sold with the original tune and many have abused their cars with no issues (myself included). To the point of the thread, are there any standout service departments in the Bay Area? I'm finally looking for the reflash too (otherwise leaning towards OFT) and I need a coil pack replaced. Also have condensated taillights but I can let that one slide. Edit: In theory any dealership should do it, one that I called up was all gung-ho "Sure bring it in! It'll be a 2-3 hour appointment" sounded like the kind of place that I'd go to pick my car up from and have a $600 bill attached to what should have been free warranty work... |
This may be different but the result was what you were asking.
I had my car misfire and run on 3 cylinders at 3k miles for some reason. I took it back to where I bought it (Livermore Subaru) and they said that a new tune was available and that the reflash should fix the issue. By the time they saw it, the car was running fine and there was no cel or data they could pull. They didn't ask anything about proof or anything else from there on. I believe my car was a 6/2013 build and they flashed it with a new tune. (also replaced pealing steering wheel and cricket pump at same time) Maybe that would work as an in? I haven't had any issues with Livermore service personally but others may have... Also, I believe (at least I think...) any obd2 reader can tell what OEM map you are using. Feel free to come out to a southbay meet and ill see what I can read with mine if your in the area! |
mine was a mid-2012 build, bought in Oct 2012 and I had the older (900C) tune. Newer cars have A01C, B01C, etc. which purportedly include the fix for the injector seals. 900C did not.
When I brought it in to Livermore Subaru last year and asked for the newer flash, they took it in, addressed some other warranty issues (including cricket/fuel pump), but when I got the car back they said no new flash is available for your car. :mad0260: So my solution was to buy and use OFT to get the fix that the dealership wouldn't give me. Don't regret it at all since the OFT also brings other improvements you won't get from a factory reflash. |

Good info, thanks all. Concord and Walnut Creek Toyota are worthless... I'm stock except for intake and exhaust. I'm just looking for a reliable smooth safe DD tune. Anyone been to Works for tuning?
|
Not sure how many have been to Works for a tune. I know there are a couple guys running tunes from EQ, a bunch on OFT, a couple on Delicous tunes from when he comes up to Mann Engineering, and then a few running/have run e-tunes from James @ HRI.

Torque app will read calibration id from ECU
For USA/canada guys any calid earlier then ZA1JA01C manual or ZA1JA01D auto ie 700C 900C A00C (or D) revisions don't have DI seal fix (transient ignition retard enabled). B00C and B01D were idle stability fixes when A/C switched in/out I believe their is a TSB to flash older cars to B01C/D D00C/D is for My2015 cars only. 11-136-14_Idle_Stability.pdf S-SB-0040-13-RPM Drop.pdf for all TSB see here www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=548473&postcount=1 or just do it yourself with Tactrix/ecuflash see link below, stock rom their as well www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62332 most tunes will bump you to latest compatable rom for car as well as tune changes. |
