CEL P0301, P0351, and P0172
Have these lovely codes on my turbo-ed FR-S. I'm curious if anyone boosted has gotten these codes and what was the remedy since every thread I look at discussing these codes doesn't discuss the results or solutions.
Edit: Coil pack #1 has already been replaced and the car began misfiring and the code came back again. |
I've heard of P0301 and P0351 being attributed to coil pack failure often, and is usually fixed with the replacement of the coil pack. P0172 I got too while doing some tune testing, it gets triggered running rich and is related to the tune more than likely. I was testing with the entire open loop table set to 12 AFR and richer to look at my SD volumetric efficiency table accuracy and I had that code pop up eventually.

Mmm if coil was replaced and you still got the code... DI Seal

So spark plugs replaced, all injector seals were replaced but they weren't damaged, port injectors cleaned and flow tested. Motor is still good according to leak down test, coil packs replaced and car is alot less knock sensitive now. However there is another problem. This problem may actually be the reason the car has had its other issues. Apparently My AVCS system is malfunctioning. It is only working some of the time. I never threw any codes for 36,xxx miles to know this was an issue and Ptuning discovered it this past week when they dynoed the car. Apparently there is a TSB for this issue that corresponds with my VIN and P0301 code so that will be the next thing looked into this week.

So wanted to give an update. So far my issues have resolved. Turns out my camshaft position sensors were out of specification and needed to be shimmed. This is why the AVCS system was not working or only working some of the time and the car was misfiring and driving in limp mode (around 240whp). After performing the TSB for the issue the car was run on the dyno over 20 times and road tested and made the amount of power it should and no longer pulled timing. I want to thank PTuning for performing the work that fixed the issue with my car. Just FYI I felt my car misfiring long before I got a code for the issue so if your early production FRS/BRZ/86 is misfiring this may be the issue for you.

I have that information at work. I will post the affected VIN in a few hours.

PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:
This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below. MODEL PRODUCTION CHANGE EFFECTIVE VIN FR-S JF1ZNAA1#D#721474 |
What size shims and where can you buy em?

You can buy individual shim but the kit would be a better choice.

I have another unfortunate update. The tsb no longer appears to have fixed the problem. The car felt down on power this morning so i decided to log the power output. Car is only making about 210whp and 212wtq like before which means the avcs is not working (not advancing timing). Car will be back at Ptuning this coming week. If qnyone knows any toyota or subaru employees who can offer insight into this issue it would be much appreciated.
