Really want to get some thoughts before I take it back to the dealer. It didn't start doing this until I installed a header back exhaust system and mtec shift springs and perrin shift bushing which shouldn't be affected

I hope you have a good relationship with your dealer ...... :)

Can you tell if the "whine" is coming from the engine or drivetrain .. ??

Does the whine vary with the engine speed ...... or the gear speed .. ??

(well, that question made sense when I first typed it .....)

If it sounds like this, then you're all good. I suspect it's the sifter bushing. I installed Whiteline transmission insert, Perrin rear shifter bushing and MTEC shift spring Kit and noticed the whine.

It makes it sound like you have a twin screw supercharger under the hood. :D

edeekeos 12-23-2014 05:16 AM

While that is true, that's not why "I" like it. I just think it makes the car feel more 'racecar.' I would do those mods JUST to get that sound..

..which makes me wonder, after those mods, why is it whining? Most gear boxes that whine that loud use spur gears right? The 86 boxes have helical gears right? Someone please shed some light on this for me..

Could it be a bad bearing in the transmission? As much as I like the sound too, it is not normal to be that loud. I would take it to the dealer. I'm thinking a new transmission is going to be the solution.

The race car whine comes from straight cut gears, however in our case I think it has something to do with sound transfer into the cabin from the gearbox
