So guys, how many out there have raised their revlimit and to what RPM? If you've raised it have you done any headwork/new valves etc?

I'm having my heads fixed and also going 1mm up on both intake and exhaust.. thinking maybe raise the revlimit to 8500rpm if it shows any gains :)

It will, the stock heads were a choke point at anything after redline on this motor. With headwork its a lot more free flowing, I'm fairly sure @Element Tuning's revs to 9k with headwork and still makes power iirc.

Sounds interesting :) I'm running the Innovate SC, should be nice with high revving SC-whine :)

I'm pretty sure you will easily over-rev the SC by raising the redline. Certainly will with one of the smaller pullies available...

Not much to open up on the intake side, but you can get significantly more flow on the exhaust side. @Element Tuning did the oversize valves and head work. They also did quite a bit of research and development on oil flow that is really worth a read! I VERY much want a 9k redline turbo motor. :drool:

Trying to calculate the max rpm but can't get any kind of consistency in the different SC-calculators out there..

I know i will/be very close to overrev the SC with a raised redline along with the 70mm pully. I might try fitting the 80mm pully along with a raised redline just to see the difference for fun :)

I could be wrong but I swore I saw something along the lines that the 70mm pulley is very slightly over revved at 7500rpm. Raising the rpm limiter to 8500 certainly would over rev it. On the topic of raising RPM limits, I've always wondered if its better to change the final drive after increasing the RPM limit to offset the reduction in available speed in each gear. People swear up and down that a final drive mod is one of the best things they ever did and a higher RPM limit would make that even better.

Just spoke to my tuner, going to test the 80mm aswell and se what kind of gains it'll make with a higher redline vs the 70mm with a lower redline :)

If you read the article I posted (the revvolution one) in here you will quickly learn that our cams are pretty good from the factory with relatively large lobes and good duration (I'm sure there is room for improvement but not many people are making cams for this motor yet) and if you see one of these motors with the intake manifold off you will say, "wow this thing is screaming... BOOST ME!!"

EDIT - The article doesn't say we have good duration, but it does say that with such little valve to piston clearance we will need to be careful with changing the lobe size and duration.

Plus people are making power at the high revs with slight port work which leads me to believe that it's not necessary.

the bigger thing is making the valve train robust enough to withstand the high rev loads

its not just a case of whacking up the spring load, have a read of the 9krpm oiling and bearings thread , element tuning has found that the followers are a weak point and can fall apart

but I do agree these things would be great with a 9K rev limit

what have they done exactly? from what they've posted it seems the axles in the followers are less than consistent in position, so some are good and some are bad

so plough through a bunch of stock parts to find a set with good axle positions and then add some reinforcement ?

this does mean that there are engines out there with weaker than designed folllowers, so travel carefully people
