Misfires

On Friday my car threw a CEL. I checked for codes with my OFT and it was a P0315. Some googling told me this code relates to crank angle sensors and misfires. I have since been watching for misfires with the OFT and twice in the 3 days following the CEL has it registered a misfire. Once on cyl 1 and once on cyl 3.

How concerned should I be? I haven't looked for misfires before so I am not sure if it is normal for the ECU to register the occasional misfire.

if its throwing that code p0315 then it likely the crank sensor is playing up, but check the plug\ wiring . probably worth unplugging cleaning plug and socket and see if it persists

should be a warantee job though

aftermarket guys make them so suggests they do fail, hopefully its not teeth missing on sensor wheel ,very unlikely

So my next question is, where is the sensor?

Fortunately it doesn't look like an expensive part to replace, and easy enough to access. Keep us updated on this issue.

What about coil packs? I've understand they tend to fail as well?

Turdinator 12-14-2014 11:47 PM

Coil pack failiers and injector seal leaks were my first concern, but the code it has thrown doesn't seem to be associated with that.

Turdinator 12-16-2014 07:00 PM

Another CEL last night when I was overtaking someone with the engine near redline. This time it was a P0351 code. So it looks like it is a coil issue. Off to toyota I go.

Could you find out how much they cost at the dealership?

No problems. I'll report back here how the whole thing goes.

May I ask your build date and mileage? I've been tracking warranty issues for the twins. Thanks!

Turdinator 01-08-2015 11:19 PM

Had my car in with Toyota today. Due to the high speed and rpm my car was doing when it popped the CEL they are "unable to legally replicate" the situation to diagnose the fault. So they have done nothing with my car.

When I get my car back today I'll check and report back to you.
