OFT with JDL EL Headers
Hey guys,
I've been reading all the posts about the OFT and EcuTEK. Lots of back and forth between the two, pros and cons, etc. I'm interested in being able to control my maps, although it would be quite the learning curve. My question is this, does anyone have any experience with the stage 2 OTS tunes for the OFT and JDL headers? I can feel stutters when I'm just barely shifting to the next gear (have the auto) and I definitely need to get a tune of some sort at this point. I'd like to be in control of the tune and be able to flash fully back to stock. My understanding with the EcuTEK is that even when flashed back to stock the ECU still stores the license and it can be problematic at the dealership. My engine related mods are: JDL EL catted headers Nameless Performance OP/FP combo + axle back 2.5" exhaust with cat Perrin all lightweight pulleys Perrin 2.75" intake |

Their is no real drama with ecutek its just if the dealer flashes an update over you "stock" ecutek rom you will need to renew your licience, just an inconvenience. Pick the system that suits your needs and budget, now and in the future. |
I tuned a UEL JDL header stage 2 car months ago on E85. Ended up with a map similar to the standard OTS Stage 2 E85 map but with some revised VVT settings. I could port those settings over to the pump gas maps and provide a pretty good map for you.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'd finally found a mention about being able to get licensing renews buried in another thread. But the reassurance is great.
Also thanks for the heads up Shiv. I'm looking at potentially going to a local shop my friend uses. I really like the results for his FI setup and he's had very good experiences there. But I also really like the options that the OFT has.... No one said this would be easy :bonk: I saw another thread in here from a Software Engineer who was practically in the exact same boat as me. Also a SWE and the more time I spend in here the more I'd like to try and find a development job where I could combine both worlds. I love programming and I love cars. Working with both would be fantastic. @shiv You said you worked with the JDL UEL headers, but those only come catless don't they? Wouldn't there be a bit of a difference with catted EL headers even if they're high flow? |

If you want to jump on the open source development effort, shoot a PM to td-d. I know there are a few people (including him) who are working on some advance functions (speed density, etc,.) for this ECU. It may be a good gateway for you if you want to apply your know-how to fun car stuff :) |

Cool thanks |
oops... I can't find the custom JDL tune fie I did months ago. Must have done some housekeeping my computer. I've emailed the customer and hopefully he has a copy (he has since moved on to a turbo kit).

Customer pulled through :)
I've gotten a few emails asking for the custom maps. But between the different calibration IDs and v1 and v2 XML files, it's probably better if I just post a screen shot of the VVT tables and have you guys edit the maps yourself: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...JDLUELVVT2.jpg The Safe and Normal tables are identical. If anyone is truly adverse to making these changes themselves, I can do it for $25 via Paypal (hey, I got xmas gifts to buy!). Just email me your current Stage 2 UEL tune file (shiv@openflashperformance.com) and I'll cut and paste the day for you. |
@shiv, I am running the JDL UEL on 93oct. Do you have a tune for that specifically or am I perfectly fine with using the UEL 93 OTS maps?

From my understanding that's for e85 and not 94 octane. Are you sure I can run those vvt changes? |
